How should motorcycles be handled?

Include motorcycles in the lane survey and trial, with attention to rear plates, riding position and vehicle detection. Riders also need an agreed assistance route when an observation cannot be resolved through the normal process.

The starting point is the actual journey. A motorcycle may approach near a lane edge, carry luggage across the camera's view or lack a front plate. None of those details should be left until the installation is complete.

A car lane can overlook a motorcycle

Long before plate recognition, attendants dealt with riders whom ticket dispensers or detectors designed around cars did not accommodate.

Plate-based records expose another part of that old problem: plate size, placement and approach position affect what the camera can observe. They are physical capture questions, not simply software options.

Choose an appropriate route for riders

Dedicated handling is useful where riders regularly use a managed lane and their visits need recording. It need not mean installing another camera.

A separate motorcycle entrance, approved credential or staffed assistance may suit the property better. Additional imagery should serve an identified operating purpose rather than be collected merely because it is possible.

Follow the rider through the whole visit

During the trial, test the detector separately from the camera: detecting a vehicle does not establish that its plate was read. Include stopped and moving motorcycles, different plate layouts, luggage and the likely path near lane edges. The proposed rear view deserves as much attention as the point where a rider waits.

Staff need to record an unresolved arrival and later departure without guessing a registration. If the rear exit camera is the only one to see a rider, the record should explain the missing arrival. Copying an entry from another vehicle would hide the exception. Assistance, access decisions and any payment correction need their own authorized handling.

Review supported sightings in Aero Ranger CORE

Aero Ranger COREconnect can bring supported motorcycle sightings, with camera, time and zone context, into Aero Ranger CORE for human review. That context helps staff examine the operating record.

The precise camera model, firmware, recognition formats and event interface still need checking. COREconnect alone does not establish rear-plate capture, motorcycle triggering or gate operation; those depend on the proposed installation.
