Cellular suitability depends on the installed link and data flow; coverage gaps, upload backlogs and service ownership need a practical plan.

Cellular can suit a lane without a practical wired connection, provided the installed modem, antenna and service support the intended data flow. Suitability needs a site assessment and an outage procedure, rather than a 4G or 5G label.
Separate selected plate events from continuous video when planning traffic. Those uses place different demands on the connection and can lead to different service and recovery requirements.
Networked cameras made communications part of recognition design. Cellular links offered another route where cabling was impractical, while local processing allowed selected records to wait for a connection before synchronisation.
This changes how observations reach the central workflow. It does not change the optical quality of the original image or remove the need to plan the camera view and exposure.
Wired networking remains an alternative where infrastructure and capacity support it. Cellular is not mandatory for plate recognition, and wired service is not practical everywhere. Traffic volume, service availability and recovery needs should drive the choice.
Responsibility for the modem, antenna and carrier account also matters. Monitoring and data allowances need an owner so the operating arrangement includes the service itself, not just equipment on a pole.
An illustrative 10 MB backlog represents about 80 megabits. At a sustained 2 Mb/s upload rate, transfer takes at least 40 seconds before overhead, retries or new traffic. Strong signal alone does not establish that sustained rate, and download speed measures a different direction.
Test the proposed equipment and plan at the installed position, including representative congestion periods and uploads after a coverage gap. A single speed test cannot explain the whole recovery process when old records and new events share the same connection.
SolarLink keeps configured edge checks available through coverage gaps and synchronises permitted events later. That makes interrupted service part of the deployment discussion rather than an afterthought.
Cellular service and upload capacity still need site-specific scoping. The local processing arrangement does not establish the carrier's coverage or how quickly a particular backlog will clear.
