Blur faces and number plates online
Simple Blur is a free photo and video redaction tool by Aero Ranger. Choose faces, number plates, or both. Detection and blurring happen in your browser on your device.
1. Choose a photo or video
Open a JPG, PNG or WebP photo, or a supported video such as MP4 or MOV. Try a traffic sample without choosing your own file.
2. Select what to blur
Enable faces, number plates or both. Adjust each confidence slider. For video, set start and end points to process just the section you need.
3. Review and download
Check the result carefully, then download a PNG photo or MP4 video. No name or email required. The original file is unchanged.
Photo and video privacy questions
Are my photos or videos uploaded?
No. Files are decoded, checked and redacted locally.
Can I blur faces without blurring number plates?
Yes. Face and number plate detection are optional and have separate confidence controls. Lower confidence can catch more possible regions, including false positives. Higher confidence can miss details.
Do I need a Mac or an installation?
No installation is needed. Photos use browser image decoding and WebAssembly. Video export additionally requires WebCodecs and supported codecs; use a current desktop Chrome, Edge or Safari. Device and browser support varies.
Does automatic blurring guarantee anonymity?
No. Small, side-on, obscured or blurred faces and plates can be missed. Review the whole output before sharing. Video audio remains audible, and the tool does not recognise identities or read plate numbers.

Browser support, privacy & limitations
Use a current desktop Chrome, Edge or Safari with WebCodecs support. Codec support varies by browser. If a video or its audio cannot be exported, Simple Blur stops and explains the problem rather than silently dropping it. Firefox and mobile browsers may not support export.
First use downloads the selected local detectors and processing libraries. Photo and video processing is local. Use Clear file to release the selected file and result from this page. Your hosting provider can see normal page and asset requests. Clicky receives page-visit and browser/device information, including your IP address, for usage analytics. It runs in an isolated frame without access to your media or signup form; analytics cookies are disabled. Keep this tab open during processing; long clips can take time and use significant memory. This version limits inputs to 500 MB and each selected section to ten minutes.
Output uses H.264 video and supported audio in MP4. HDR colour, unusual codecs and extra tracks need care. Only the primary video and audio tracks are retained; descriptive metadata is removed. Automatic detection is not a guarantee of anonymisation. Face detection finds face regions; it does not identify people. Profiles, obscured faces and small details can be missed.
